"I'll stay even if all I am is just a shadow to you"

"Keep it on. You’re not worthy of my touch."

chuckle echoed in the stillness, dark and cruel.

"You’ll beg for a way out. You’ll wish you were never born. But it’s too late now. You can’t undo this. Not now. Not ever."

Her chest squeezed painfully. She wanted to fight. She wanted to claw her way out. But the words died on her tongue. She didn’t deserve to fight. She didn’t deserve to live.

"Please... I’m sorry," she whispered, her voice barely a breath.

Kael’s expression flickered, his gaze turning colder, sharper. For a moment, something dangerous flared behind his eyes—but it vanished just as quickly.

"Sorry?" His laugh was bitter, like a knife twisting deeper. "You think that means anything now? You made your choice, Rhea. Now, you pay."

"You know I can’t resist when you do that," he murmured, his voice low and tender.

Rhea let out a little sigh, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. "I’m not doing anything," she muttered, but the slight blush on her cheeks gave her away.

Kael smiled gently, brushing his thumb over her cheek. "You’re adorable when you sulk, but you know what? You don’t have to try so hard. I see you—always. You’re everything to me."

Rhea looked up at him through her lashes, a soft smile curling on her lips. "Do you really mean it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Kael nodded, his expression filled with sincerity. "I mean every word. You’re the light in my life, Rhea. Don’t ever forget that."

Her heart fluttered, and she leaned into his touch, her eyes softening. "You’re too good to me, Kael. I think I’m addicted to you."

He chuckled quietly, his hand resting gently on her cheek. "You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, Little Wraith. I’ll always be here, no matter what."

Rhea grinned, her usual mischief returning. "Promise?"

Kael grinned back, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I promise, Rhea. You’re stuck with me, forever."

Rhea giggled, leaning her head against his chest. "I’m okay with that.

"Rhea... please," his breath caught in his throat as he reached for her hand, his fingers trembling. "Don't slip away from me. Not like this. I can't lose you, not now, not when I—" He swallowed hard, the lump in his throat too thick to push down. "You can’t leave me. Please, stay. I need you. I need you here with me."

His gaze searched her face, but it was like trying to grasp water with his bare hands. She was fading, slipping through his fingers like sand, and no matter how hard he held on, she was getting further away.

Rhea's eyes, dull with the weight of pain and fear, flickered up to meet his. Her voice, though soft, was like a knife to his chest.

"I don't have much time, Kael," she whispered, her hand weakly clutching his, though her body trembled as if the effort itself was too much. "I... I don't know how long I can keep holding on. I don't want to be the reason you break, but I'm already broken... I'm so broken."

Kael’s breath hitched, his grip tightening, pulling her closer as if that might be enough to keep her anchored to him.

"No," he growled, his voice barely a whisper but filled with so much emotion it shattered everything inside him. "You don’t get to say that. You’re not broken. You’re mine, Rhea. Don’t you dare leave me, not when I’m finally starting to—" His voice cracked, and for a moment, he couldn’t speak. All the walls he’d built around himself, all the darkness he’d buried deep inside him, threatened to break open. "I can’t breathe without you. Please, stay. Stay with me."

Rhea’s gaze softened, but there was a heaviness in her eyes, as if she already knew the end was near.

"I don’t know how to fight anymore, Kael," she said softly, her voice breaking. "I don’t know how to keep holding on when it feels like I’m disappearing in front of you."

Kael’s heart shattered. His eyes, filled with unshed tears, stared down at her, as if willing her to understand.

"Then let me fight for you," he whispered urgently, his voice raw, every word a plea, a promise. "Let me fight for both of us. I won’t let you go. Not now. Not ever. Just... just stay with me. Just a little longer. Please... don’t slip away."
